SYNOPSIS: 1982. The South American country of Suriname is in political disarray. Following a coup d’état in 1980, the country has been under a military dictatorship. A family is trying to maintain a semblance of a normal life while living under these conditions. Drawing from the tradition of oral storytelling, this film weaves together different stories from Surinamese folklore and history while centering the experiences of one family in the 1980s. In doing so, it exposes the painful history of a country that has been marked by greed and exploitation.
